Growing your brand - literally
The Ballance Agri-Nutrients Group have always looked upon their Annual Report as a major communications medium to their farmer shareholders. So it was of no surprise that they responded positively to WAVE’s creative approach to their latest report.

The previous 12 months had seen Ballance deliver an amazingly successful year in spite of a number of difficult challenges outside of their control. The result was a tribute to the efficiency of New Zealand farmers, their hard work and their ability to understand and apply technology. It also gave the confidence needed to make such a bold statement on the cover about their position in the industry during a time of media hype around increases in prices of fertiliser and the raw materials used to make it.

WAVE added another dimension to the old saying ‘The grass is greener on the (Ballance) side of the fence’. Highlighting the performance of the company and its’ products.

The Report also carried an article especially prepared by the Hon. Mike Moore “Food for thought” which set out to put the current world markets in perspective and gave an insight into the economic environment effecting farmers and the farming industry.

Seasonal growth meant that the pasture image wasn’t going to be able to be photographed during the regular production period of the Annual Report. We knew that this was simply too good of an idea to miss so commissioned the image ourselves, banking on Ballance seeing its potential.

The creation of the Ballance rings growing in superb pasture was never going to be a matter of digital manipulation. There was really only ever one way we were going to achieve it. WAVE grew the real thing. Carefully marked out, lovingly mown, and meticulously groomed over a period of four weeks to get it just right. The team completed a final trim, the photographer moved in, checked the light, zoomed and focussed, all the while, menacingly, on the other side of the fence stood a very interested herd of cows!

Not only did Ballance think it was perfect for the introduction to the Annual Report but they also loved the idea of putting the image of the cows eating the grass on this year’s inside back cover.
